Overview

From the New York Times bestselling Jane Feather, author of To Kiss a Spy and Kissed by Shadows, comes a deliciously sensual tale of intrigue and temptation…

The last thing Lord Nicholas Kincaid expected to see in the gloom of a London tavern was a vision of loveliness. And when she led him to a bedchamber with a come-hither smile, there was no question of resisting—until he realized the lying wench meant to render him senseless so the landlord could rob him blind! That’s how the handsome lord made the acquaintance of Miss Polly Wyat, a ravishing beauty he soon decided would make the perfect spy. Unwittingly, she would infiltrate the inner circle at the king’s court. But when Nicholas sets out to bind Polly with chains of passion, he’ll find himself hard-pressed not to be bewitched…or to fall in love.

Story is very good; E-book format lacking in spell-check realm

I had borrowed this book from the library and loved every minute of it, so I decided to purchase the Nook Book copy- the story is the same; however, the numerous typos in the e-book format make it very difficult to remain drawn into the story- some words are blatant typos while others just don't make sense- a shame since Polly and Nicholas are very dynamic characters that deserve your full attention. I would give the story itself 5 stars; this format of reading 3.

    Surprisingly good

To be fair, I don't always appreciate Jane Feather novels though never because of the writing, which is usually great. This one, however surprised me by being both well written, intriguing and still thrilling to read. There is a straightforwardness to the plot and openness of the characters that is refreshing. Some novels depend on the characters being naive and amazingly oblivious to build the climax but Nicholas and Polly proved intelligent and insightful, and there are no secrets from the reader, which is unusal because it still works well. The direction of their thoughts, their actions, and their reactions to situations all made sense. Things don't turn out perfectly simply because they are the heros of the plot, and in that there is a sense of realism, while never losing grip of the romantic fantasy. It was well balanced, well written and never overly fanciful.
