Vera Nuemann was your mother's or grandmother's "Martha Stewart"; yes, she was THE design maven even before Martha was born. Vera's bold, exotic and often whimsical designs were found on table linens, scarves and home goods of the stylishly astute from the late 40s to the late 80s. This book prominently features Vera's designs along with a history of her life and art training. Information on the early days of her avant-guarde company and it's amazing growth is also included. Even Marilyn Monroe wore her scarves and Perry Ellis worked for Vera. Yet it was the many, many vibrant women of the day that loved her design aesthetic and made Vera a timeless style icon...my aunt, Ann Ryder, proudly wore her Vera scarves every day.
This book left me wanting more of Vera's designs...so I'm off on a treasure hunt seeking to add some mid-century style to my 21st century home.
