Verdi's music is some of the greatest ever composed for the human voice, and some of the most difficult, requiring a perfect balance of spontaneous ardor and scrupulous refinement. Andrea Bocelli has recorded Verdi before, most notably on Viaggio Italiano, but the results were strangely tentative. With Verdi, however, he boldly faces the challenge, offering the best singing of his career so far. As soon as he soars into the melody of "Celeste Aida," the opening track, it's clear that he is in his element.
