Library Journal - Library Journal
A compendium of statistics, names, addresses, and facts about Vermont, this almanac is arranged alphabetically for quick access. Tax statistics are under ``Taxes,'' education information is under both ``Education'' and ``Colleges and Universities,'' but there is an index which refers the reader to both sections. The almanac combines an assortment of information usually available in separate sources. Its collection in a single source is useful. Much of the statistical information was selectively compiled from state government reports or files. Sources are listed. Currency of statistical information ranges from 1984 to 1988. As with all volumes of this type, some items (e.g., a list of 1989 Annual Events) are already dated. There are certain idiosyncracies. A list of state government department heads' salaries includes at least two departments that do not exist; others are omitted. However, the value of lists of marinas, libraries, town clerks, and maple sugar houses, as well as statistics on dropouts, hunting, and weather, all in a single volume, cannot be overlooked.-- Sybil Brigham McShane, Vermont Dept. of Libs., Montpelier
