60 Black and White portraits and text of rural, native Vermonters who are disappearing as the state becomes gentrified.
Los Angeles TimesStep aside, snail darter. Gangway, lousewort. America's real endangered species is the Vermonter. Like the elephant, this purely Yankee specimen is running out of room. Miller has tracked down the survivors...The black and white of his photos is austerely appropriate, and his written vignettes are even better than the photographs.
Book Review Index...Vermont People resonates with unforgettable images that urban dwellers would be well advised to consider the tradition and attitudes that have made Vermont an essential contributor to values admired by all Americans. Highly Recommended.

What People are saying about this
Christopher Bohjalian...The real beauty of Vermont People does not depend upon Vermont. The strength of his portraits transcends the fact that they are Vermonters. Miller's photographs are honest and ulncompromising pictures of real people.

I myself have read this book countless times. Both Miller's photography and writing symbolizes a very special people. The Vermonters. My father graces these pages, and often I will skim the well worn pages to find th epage. His writing his accurate and doesn't betray our character. An amazing read. I recommend to anyone. Even a flatlander.
