Veterinary Drugs provides comprehensive coverage of commercially available animal pharmaceuticals and pesticides. Over 700 unique veterinary agents are recorded along with their chemical structures and exhaustive listings of product trade names and manufacturers. The drug compounds are organized by therapeutic category, allowing all drugs with a particular function to be reviewed and compared quickly and easily. Each main entry includes the following information: the commonly adopted chemical name, three internationally used identifiers of the compound (CAS, EINECS and Merck), and other synonyms and systematic names. The drug's physical properties and acute toxicity, along with its known biological activity and FDA-labeled applications are summarized. Each entry also includes a detailed listing of the trade names of all animal health products containing the drug along with the product's manufacturer and its NADA (New Animal Drug Application) number. A key feature of Veterinary Drugs is its extensive indexing. Appendixes include a CAS Registry Number index; a European Inventory of Existing Commercial and Chemical Substances (EINECS) number index; an index of NADA numbers; and a master index containing over 9,000 names and synonyms. A detailed directory of addresses, websites and phone numbers for animal drug manufacturers and suppliers provides convenient contact information. This reference will be an invaluable companion for animal and livestock veterinarians, pharmaceutical researchers, government food and drug regulators, food safety and public health specialists and biologists who, starting with a single synonym or trade name for a veterinary agent, will be able to quickly find a thumbnail sketch of essential information.

Editorial Reviews

From The Critics
The 755 drugs described include those approved for veterinary use by the US Food and Drug Administration, and those approved for human use that are also used in veterinary medicine. The entries are arranged in 118 therapeutic or biological activity categories, for example alpha- Adrenergic agonists and diuretics. Each contains the three main registry numbers, molecular diagram and formula, chemical name, synonyms, physical properties, toxicity, and the names and manufacturers or suppliers of veterinary products. Indexes are by CAS, EINECS, and NADA numbers and name and synonym. A directory of manufacturers and suppliers is appended. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
