Editorial Reviews

Thomas E. Eurell
The fifth edition of this well-organized text presents a concise overview of veterinary immunology. It is divided into 37 chapters that cover basic concepts such as antigens, antibodies, and inflammation and applied information such as serology, vaccines, autoimmunity, and immune deficiencies. It also contains a complete glossary and a useful table of abbreviations. The purpose is to provide a general introduction to fundamental immunologic concepts as they relate to veterinary medicine. This book is written as an introductory text for veterinary students and a reference for practicing veterinarians. The line drawings are excellent, and they are important to the overall presentation of the material. A comprehensive glossary and annotated listing of selected CD molecules is a useful feature of this text. The author has presented an effective organization of important concepts to help students and practicing veterinarians establish a sound foundation in modern veterinary immunology. Complementary information on protein biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology, and selected disease conditions provide the reader with a broad context for understanding fundamental immunologic concepts. The depth of coverage, narrative content, and narrative style are consistently appropriate for the intended audience and make the book very easy to read. Sufficient new information is presented to justify replacing the previous edition.
