Meet the Author

Francisco de Miranda was involved in the French Revolution, the Independence of the United States, and key elements of Latin American history. He studied at the University of Caracas and was one of the most learned men of his time. He had knowledge of mathematics and geography and spoke French, English, Latin and Greek.  Miranda was arrested on July 31, 1812 by a group of civilians and soldiers, including Simon Bolivar. In 1813 he was taken to Spain, to the prison of Arsenal Ratchet, where he'd die four years later.
