El profesor Lidenbrock pretende seguir los pasos de Saknussemm, y emprende una expedición acompañado por su escéptico sobrino Axel y el impasible guía islandés Hans.

El grupo ingresa por un volcán hacia el interior del globo terráqueo, en donde vivirán innumerables peripecias, incluyendo el asombroso descubrimiento de un mar interior y un mundo mesozoico completo enterrado en las profundidades, así como la existencia de iluminación de carácter eléctrico.

En esta novela, Verne utiliza uno de los inventos existentes en la época: la lámpara del minero, creada por los físicos franceses Dumas y Benoît a partir de la bobina de Ruhmkorff y del tubo de Geissler. Es infundada, pues, la idea de que fue el mismo Verne quien inventó esta fuente muy luminosa.

    El mejor libro que he leido!!!

    Este libro es uno de los que mas me gusta entre los libros de Julio Verne porque muestra unas ideas muy originales que explican como podria el centro de la tierra y dando un pequeno vistazo al mismo tiempo al pasado de nuestro mundo de verdad este libro es el mejor que he leido hasta ahora.
