It simply doesn't get any better than this. The latest edition of VideoHound's popular film guide has expanded to over 25,000 international movies now available on tape and DVD (the 2002 edition featured 24,000 films). Alphabetically arranged by film title, each entry includes title, alternate title, one- to four-bone rating (or Woof!), year released, MPAA rating, brief (often hilarious) review, length, format, country of origin, cast, technical personnel, awards, and made-for-television/cable/video designation. The feature that regularly pushes this guide to the top of the movie guide heap, however, is its series of indexes, which include alternate title, awards, casts, director, writer, cinematographer, composer, categories (from "Abortion" to "Zombies"), and the newly combined "Kibbles and Series," which is everything else anyone would want to know about films, such as recurring characters, cinematic collaborations, and top-grossing films. This work is also extremely browsable, making it a wonderful introduction for casual viewers and a gold mine for film buffs. VideoHound never takes itself too seriously and thus makes an excellent companion to Leonard Maltin's Movie and Video Guide 2003 and the Time Out Film Guide 2003. Essential for both public and academic libraries.-Anthony J. Adam, Prairie View A&M Univ., TX Copyright 2003 Cahners Business Information.
