Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jackie Hechtkopf
Librarians, check your shelves! Middle school teachers, reexamine your reading lists! If you don't have the 1975 original of this fast-paced mystery, rectify the situation with this attractive new edition. Students will love the frantic and sometimes funny efforts of eleven-year-old Rob as he tries to stay alive through the weekend of his oldest sister's wedding. Rob has witnessed the murder of his elderly neighbor, and the murderer is now after him. In a refreshing change for children's literature, the young protagonist does not appear to be devoid of parents. Rob sees his parents, especially his father, as a source of salvation. Unfortunately, Rob's father is called away from the house to mediate Uncle Ray's legal troubles. His mother is too busy to discuss anything except the wedding. Rob's decision to pursue this mystery alone is made out of desperation rather than typical curiosity. The climax finds Rob outmaneuvering the killer with a jar of spiders in the upstairs of an old house, while a fire burns downstairs. Readers will delight in the constant action and suspense of this spirited mystery. 1998 (orig.

    View from the Cherry Tree

The View from the Cherry Tree is a GREAT BOOK! I love murder mysteries and this one popped out at me from the library shelf. It is very well-written, the author paints very visual pictures, and I couldn't stop reading it. I have recommended it to all my friends and family! Anyone who likes mysteries of any kind should definitely read this book.

    GREAT book

This book came into my hands when I was forced to do a book report on it for class. I thought it was going to be one of those boring books teachers make you read with a 'lesson' everyone should learn. I was wrong. I read this book in a night and was glued to it from the first page. I recrommend it to anyone. This book is about a boy who loves to sit in a cherry tree in his front yard and watch the street where he lives. One day he is up in the tree when he sees someone push his next door neighbor out the window, and die. No one believes the boy, except the murderer- who wants to be sure the boy will never speak a word about the murder, or a word again.

Not the best book ever, but...

I saw one of my classmates diligently reading this book and I thought I may wanted to try it myself. I loved it, though it was not the best book of all-time. It's about an eleven-year-old boy who sat in a cherry tree one day and witnessed a neighbor get murdered. The ending wasn't what I expected, but this book's suspense will keep you engrossed.

    Should I read it?

I recommend this book but if you read the overview of the book it states that the only person who listens to him is the murderer. Rob then narrows it down to two people and right then you know who it was. You do want to keep on reading to find out why though. Its obviously a good book because a lot of students at my school are reading it for their book report.

    Wonderful Read!

My students love this book. I use it each year in literature circles. It is always one the students fight over reading. Once one group reads it, they all want to read it. My sixth grade students love the suspense even those that don't normally like mystery type books. A great book in the classroom!
