From the Publisher

“This book is a great resource for intermediate and middle school teachers. ” —Children's Literature
Children's Literature
This compact chapter book is chock-full of interesting facts about the Vikings. Presented as a travel guide, the tourist/reader is drawn into the trip with vivid and detailed color drawings and illustrations. Each section contains a sightseer's tip and suggests which details on the page are important to note. Chapter titles include "Traveling Around," "Food and Drink," "A Viking Raid," "A Viking Feast" and "Leisure Time." Easy-to-read text conveys factual information to the reader, such as modes of travel used by Vikings. The Viking longship was a sturdy vessel built to withstand hundreds of miles of travel. These ships were called "serpents of the seas" because their prows were decorated with carvings of scary creatures. Little known but fascinating facts are presented, such as the Vikings skiing prowess and how they wore their hair. The reader is given a "souvenir" of the journey at the end of the book. An index and a foldout map of the Viking world are included. This book is a great resource for intermediate and middle school teachers. Part of the "Sightseers" series. 2000, Kingfisher Publications, $8.95. Ages 9 up. Reviewer: Sue Reichard
