Meet the Author

Susan Langley discovered as a little girl that vintage hats and clothing are links to our past that we can examine and learn from. As a child, she brought her Grandma a "funny" hat she had found in an old trunk, and her grandmother said "Susie, my great-grandmother worse this hat to the train station to see Abraham Lincoln's funeral train when it came through Syracuse in 1865." Thus began Susan Langley's fascination with vintage hats.

    I Also Recommend:

Second Edition of Vintage Hats & Bonnets is as marvelous as the First.

Ms. Langley has done it again. Readers can follow the 200-year evolution of the hat and bonnet through a great selection of photos and illustrations. The meticulous research is evident in the Overviews and captions. As with her other books, there is exceptional attention to detail, beautiful layout and an added bonus of history relevant to each era. Whether a "must have" reference for the serious collector or a coffee-table book for those interested in history and fashion, this is right on the mark. Great job, Ms. Langley!

    I Also Recommend:

This book is extremely colorful, beautiful to look at, and easy to read. A must for any hat collector. An incredible tool and history of the fashion of hats and bonnets.

I have been in the vintage clothing business for 24 years and presently have over five hundred hats that date from the 1810s through the 1970s and this is the best book on hats that I have ever had the pleasure to read. Not only is the book full of the most incredible adverting and illustrations but it also has a great selection of period photographs that depict real people wearing the hats at the time that they were created. You can get the true picture of how hats were worn. You get a mass of information from period fashion articles telling what to wear and how to wear it. You see world views through the decades and how they changed the design of hats. This book is a valuable tool to the hat collector for identifing period pieces. Any person that collects hats will love this book. I would encourage you to add it to your library. Steven Porterfield - The Cats Meow

The BEST In Hat & Bonnet Research!

This is the second edition of this book and I find it to be every bit as good as the original. Great photos and text. Ms. Langley goes to great lengths to provide accurate information on her descriptions and details for hats of all eras. Her book has really made it possible to figure out what is original or what is a "in the style of". I really can not recommend this book highly enough, is perfect for the seasoned collector or for someone who is just starting out to build their collection. This one goes right next to the original edition of her book. Thanks for two great hat books!
