Meet the Author

I love the written word more than cooked food and that's saying a lot. I write because I have to(It's the only way to silence the voices). There is always a story going on in my head so if you see me in public I'll probably be scribbling furiously in a notebook.

Strawberry Mansion, my first novel, is semi autobiographical(I am Tabitha in the story). It was a very painful part of my life that I felt an overwhelming need to give voice to. I've changed a few things to protect the guilty, and add a bit of distance from myself to the story. I love that book. It's a sort of snapshot of my journey into adulthood. Although the characters are young, It's filled with adult content, bad language, sex drugs and rock and roll, you're gonna love it.

Begonia Brown, my sophomore novel, is street fiction at it's finest. I am very proud of this book. It is the hood as I recognize it, minus the glitz and glam... I pushed the envelope with this book. I felt free to tell ugly truths because the book isn't about me, It's about where I come from. Begonia Brown, although it was hard to write, is one helluva ride!

What else is there to say about me? I am a mom, a poet, a nurse, a playwright, a scifi geek, a lover of all things fantasy, a junk food junkie, and a facebook addict.

until next time
Julia

    I Also Recommend:

Pretty good, but Begonia Brown was the best.

This was the third book that I read in the series, and I would definitely recommend reading the other 2 first. They were really good and I had to read this one to see how they ended. I was slightly disappointed by the ended... it was a bit abrupt and seemed hurried. But overall, it was a very good read that kept me turning the pages. Definitely worth checking out.

Finally completed the whole series and it only took me a few hou

Finally completed the whole series and it only took me a few hours to read the last part. this last part really focuses on Violet but it also brings everyone together in this book. In this part you get to know the characters a little more because a lot of them are older now and some are living differnt life styles then they were in book one.

This series had things that could be happening in real life so it allows the people reading it to connect to the whole story or to certain characters in the book.

All the girls from strawberry mansion come together in this book to help out Violet who is in a lot of trouble. Even though they are all not blood related their friendship couldnt make them any closer and they all come together to do what they have to do to help out Begonia and her sister out.

I would recommend this series to people because overall it was a goodread. There were a few errors with editing in the book but overall was a goodread.

    Great Ending!

I am a true fan of all of JPS books and Violet was just what the doctor ordered. I love how she took Violet to hell and back while still getting a message across about the power of family, true friends and most of all.....loyalty. I would mos def purchase another great read from the author and I am eagerly awaiting the release of F2......JPS always brings the drama!

    Okay...

I don't think I read the series in order. I read Begonia and then Violet of the Strawberry Mansion Trilogy. In any event, the book was just ok for me. It would lag, then pick up, lag and then pick up. Also, the editing in the books were way off...just too many typos and mispelled words. Thought this book was going to be much better. It wasn't the worse I've read, but could have been better.

A must read for some sort of closure on the storyline but "Begonia Brown" was best in series!

Wish the author had just made this one book and included in the Begonia Brown book. All main characters of the series come together in this one. Felt the author rushed and just put something together to wrap up storyline. Wish would have taken time and given us more on characters introduced in this one and the ending but gave some sense of closure.

Family is not always by blood

Julia Press Simmons you did it again! You sure do know how to weave a story together. Even though at such young age Begonia had to be the backbone for her family and did it by any means necessary! Oh Violet looking for love in all the wrong places will get u caught up. Far to often this sums up the life of some of the youth today. Wow u told just how grimey the streets can b. Now waiting your next story because from what I see u have alot to pen. Well done Julia!
