Overview

The first book to showcase the incredible apocalyptic universe of Philippine-born painter Manuel Ocampo (b. 1955). Ocampo's confrontational works, with volatile imagery presented in surfaces simultaneously tortured and sublime, are a totally unique high-octane fusion of images from the end of our troubled century. Black humor, transcendence, and a taking to task of all the sanctimonious religious and moral assumptions that have controlled the West throng from these masterfully painted canvases by the man who is the true Goya of our era. Explodes all preconceptions.

I first came across this book at a friend¿s house and it nearly sent me to tears. His paintings are phenomenal. He encompasses everything that has arisen after the flood gates of post modernism were opened. I can write for hours and not give this artist enough credit. The only disappointing things about him are that not enough people know him and that he's gone somewhere deep in the Philippines and no one is sure if he's still making art.
