I bought this book, and didn't expect to like it. I've read all of Amanda's other books, and I enjoyed those...but the description for this one just didn't grab me. I decided I would give it a shot, because I might be surprised, and well...it's only $2.99. I was very surprised. After the first few pages I was totally involved with the main characters, and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. This book doesn't have as much romance as Amanda's others, but I think that might be what made me like it so much. I mean, I enjoy romance, but this book seems to focus more on the story, and it's a great story. There are demons, angels, witches, haunted forests, creepy creatures, unicorns, and a love story too! I don't know what more you could want. This book also had fewer errors than her others, so that was an added bonus. Anyway, if you enjoyed Hocking's other books, or if you enjoy great stories, I would highly recommend this book!

I've read the Trylle Triology ( loved it!) And My Blood Approves and enjoyed both so when I saw Amanda had a new book out I purchased it right away. Virture didnt capture me the way the other series did. It was boring and the characters didnt seem like real people ( who falls in love by looking at someone?) I like sci fi type stuff, fiction with witches, trolls etc but this book just did interest me! Hoping there will be another AH book soon similar to trylle.....

I want to start by saying that I absolutely love Amanda Hocking. I think that she's an amazing writer and I've read every single one of her other books and loved them. And since this book was out later on B&N than on amazon I waited pretty impatiently. But when I finished Virtue I found myself very disappointed, especially since it was said on her blog that someone said this was her best book yet.
It was too short, everything seemed very rushed and disjointed. She could have done so much more with the plot of this book, which is something that I adore and have seen it done much better. It just kind of fell flat compared to other books she has out there and other books along the same plot line.
I personally wouldn't recommend this book to anyone over the age of fifteen, but I would certainly recommend others by her. Try Hollowland or the my blood approves series by Amanda instead of Virtue.

Many have said this is supposed to Amanda Hocking's best work yet, and as a fan of her YA books, I would disagree. I thought this book was a fabulously told fairy tale, something akin to the likings of the Brothers Grimm. However, I would not stretch to say it was any sort of literary masterpiece let alone her best work. I did enjoy reading it, but it seriously only took me a little shy of two hours to finish it all. While the story line was good and creative, it was also incredibly rushed. I definitely found it to be targeted toward a younger audience. And as an adult lover of YA books, I was a little disappointed. However, it is also intended for younger teens, not adults like myself. I just thought Hocking really could have elaborated a bit more and made this story a bit longer and more thought provoking. However, Hocking is also known for releasing several books per year, and to do this, it requires cutting corners. I personally would have waited for a slightly better product. However, all-in-all, I have to say she did a pretty great job. As a writer myself, writing something even this good is a pretty daunting feat. Kudos to Amanda and her success!

The story was ok. I guess I'm used to reading her series. The characterization was weaker than her other books. I felt like I never really knew or cared much about the characters.

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I had been really excited for this book to come out and bought it that day with plans to read it after I was done with what I was currently reading. In the mean time I had read some reviews and it gave me mixed feelings about reading it. Of course I would eventually. Needing a break from all the murder and horror books I have been reading, I went ahead and gave it a chance. Virtue is, as the author describes it, a fairy tale. The balance of good vs evil is on the brink of being upset, with evil coming out the victor, and one unknowing young girl in the center. Lux has been sent by his master, Valefor, to basically kidnap Lily, with intentions to make her his bride so that evil will take over the world. As with most fairy tales, it was pretty much love at first sight. Instead of Lux taking her back to Valefor, he drops her off in a spooky forest and tells her to never go back to the palace she lived in. As with most if not all fairy tales, good triumphs over evil. There were a lot of interesting characters throughout. Was this Amanda Hocking best book? Not by any means but the story line is light and fun. There were plenty of "what happens next" parts and surprises. I was definitely entertained with this story. The reason I gave it 3 stars on was because there were quite a few grammatical errors and places where words were missing or should have been deleted and weren't. I understand that she is a self-published author but I have also read many other books by self-published authors that had fewer errors. Was it enough to distract me from the story or make it un-enjoyable? No way! But I felt I couldn't really give it any more than that. I have yet to read anything by Amanda Hocking that I have disliked or couldn't finish. Once I started, I was drawn in to the magical world she had created. Amanda Hocking will always remain one of my favorite authors and I will continue to read anything she puts out there.

I did like this book but i didnt connect with the characters as much as i have in her other novels. Lux's past was never described in detail but it was a cute story with a fairy tale ending...very quick read but dont go in expectig it to be an amazing book because it is just okay...

This book is full of twist and turns. I like that it is different from most fantasy books that I have read, seeing as it has a different plot. But this book is a great read, and it is very hard to put down.

This book is a great twist on the traditional idea of good versus evil. 7 deadly sins versus the 7 virtues really puts into perspective how actions have reactions, but this story which through and through is a love story ends with the lesson that a person chooses who they are, not a label.

Overview
In a world filled with magic, love might be the final answer in the eternal battle between good and evil. When Lux is tasked with retrieving the virtuous Lily for his master, his entire world is put in jeopardy. Lux must battle goblins, demon dogs, and sea dragons to rescue the one he loves, and that's only the beginning of what he must face...Virtue is a fairy tale for young adults with action, suspense, and romance. It contains mild language and some suggestive dialogue. Recommended ages 14 and up.
