Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Brian Marshall, O.D.(Marshall Family Eye Care)
Description: This third edition now consists of two cards fastened together, both double-sided, that provide preliminary vision testing information. The size makes it a perfect fit for a standard lab coat pocket. The second edition was published in 2006.
Purpose: Essential preliminary tests are conveniently positioned on these cards for an assistant or a doctor to collect important data without taking up valuable pocket space.
Audience: This convenient set will be useful for all healthcare providers, including students, residents, and nurses. Because of their size, these pocket cards have become commonplace for many healthcare providers.
Features: This set provides three data collecting tests important to properly assess visual functioning. The first is a near point chart designed to measure near visual acuity. Vision is measured by identifying numbers, images, reading sentences, or the tumbling "E", making it perfect for children or others who do not speak English. The second test measures pupil size and includes a handy pupil size gauge. The third test, a color vision test, includes six color plates to diagnose the most common color vision deficiencies. The previous edition included only three. In addition, a handy ruler in both inches and centimeters has been added. The cards include instructions to help the data collector perform the tests and record the results. The print quality and color plates are superb.
Assessment: An already excellent pocket tool is now even better. Why carry multiple cards or rely on books that can get misplaced or lost, when everything is conveniently laid out for quick and easy testing with this set. Everyone who sees patients in my office carries this set around so data collecting can be done anywhere and anytime, thereby helping the office to run more efficiently. The print quality is excellent. This update will replace the one I have been carrying around and using every day for the past seven years!
