"We had a lot of fundoing this together. He really likes to share it with other people."—Jennifer M., grandmother of 7-year-old

"I love the fact that he takes initiative in reading the book to himself, initiating spontaneous speech, and sitting down for extended periods of time to enjoy the book. He's a 'busy' kid, so these are all goals we work toward with him."—Amy M., mother of 2½-year-old

"She read it to everyone in our family including our dogs, guinea pig, and hamster! She was very proud of it. I saw her with it at least one to two times a day."—Dottie F., grandmother of 7-year-old

"I really liked working on this with David. He is very happy to have a book about himself, by himself. It was lots of fun and a lovely finished product."—Debby A., mother of 6-year-old

Children can recount a visit to Grandmother— what she looks like, where she lives, how they play, what they do and eat together, and how they feel about each other.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
This interactive book invites a child to create a personal story about the love of a grandmother. The child writes his/her name on the front page. The next page directs the child to draw a picture of Grandmother or attach a photograph. The accompanying page of description has sentences to complete, prompting the child to describe Grandmother's hair, eyes, and clothing. Then the child completes sentences about herself/himself. Space is provided for a self-portrait or a photo. This format continues with spaces for illustrations and descriptions of Grandmother's residence, the mode of transportation for arriving there, foods they eat together, and games they play. Open-ended prompts encourage the child to expand on other activities. Sleeping arrangements and bedtime rituals precede a section about "favorite" things. The last four pages are devoted to ways that the child and grandmother express their love for each other. Colorful cartoonlike drawings show a young mouse visiting Grandmother Mouse. These are spaced along the edges of the pages allowing plenty of space for the child to draw or place pictures. Two pages of directions for adults provide guidance for creating the book with a child. When the project is completed, the child has a personalized book to read independently. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.

    Great book!

This is a great interactive book filled with bright, colorful, cute illustrations and easy-to-read/easy-to-understand completion sentences. My kids enjoyed completing the book with photos and drawings of their own. This scrapbook is a fantastic keepsake.
