Visitor's Pass
Visitor's Pass is a romantic science fiction story. It features a young and talented defence scientist, Jim Fields, who is working on new technology aimed at increasing the survival chances of soldiers who suffer otherwise fatal injury. Set in an era when a government is in trouble with high numbers of casualties, Jim is thrust into an early trial of the technology. Things progress well, not just in terms the technology but also in terms of romance with his colleague, Kirsty Walsh. But as the soldiers are debriefed following their near death experience is it the form of the treatment that causes them to report such similar visions or have they really visited a life beyond this one? As Jim's tour comes to an end, he is forced to consider whether it might be possible to make such a visit himself.

About the Author

Tony Smith was born in Golborne, a small Lancashire mining town in England and grew up in Maidenhead in Berkshire. Inspired in part by the stories his father told him of his time as a Flight Engineer on Lancaster Bombers during the 2nd World War and in part by the space race of the 60s, Tony became an aeronautical engineer, graduating first from Bath University and then gaining a PhD from Bristol in rocket motor technology. After a short spell at Rolls-Royce working on aero-engine design, Tony jointly formed his own company, S & C Thermofluids in 1987. The company carries out research projects mainly concerned with aircraft propulsion. Tony is married and has three daughters. Tony's experiences within the defence research arena, coupled with a passion for scientific innovation which often borders on fiction, prompted him to write Visitor's Pass in 2007 to express some ideas beyond his normal sphere.
