Visual C++ 6 from the Ground Up

I really needed for this book to be an entry level C++ 6 book, but it is not. The cover says, "From The Ground Up," but right off the bat the author tells you that his book is for persons who have four or more months of Windows programming experience. Some of the code samples will not execute without blowing up, and I have even tried re-installing my C++ 6.0 (and service pack 4). It blows up on both of my systems the same way (Windows XP Home and Windows 98 SE ). No author is going to instill a whole lot of confidence in persons wanting to learn how to program in a language as complicated as C++ if the code samples blow up even when copied straight from the book. I was once advised to never listen to reviews found in magazines that sell advertisements, because reviews often get slanted and surveys wind up being biased. Be careful who you listen to... it's your money.

Visual C++ 6 from the Ground Up

I needed a book from the basics, but it is not. Title says "From The Ground Up," but inside is says you need four months of programming experience in Windows. Code samples crash on both Windows 98 and Windows XP systems, even after re-installed C++ 6 (and service pack 4). Be careful what you read in magazines that sell advertisements: surveys get biased, and reviews get slanted. It's your money!
