Visual C++ provides an efficient programming system for writing Windows applications. The language has the capability to generate the complete range of software, from simple dialog-based programs to multi-user applications and operating systems. The lack of any detailed user guides makes initial use of Visual C++ an awesome undertaking; finding out how to do even the simplest of tasks from the on-line help alone is a daunting task and, although the documentation is extensive, there is little introductory material available. The aim of this book is to fill part of that gap. This Made Simple book is intended for you if you're new to Visual C++ but have some familiarity with the C and C++ languages. Some working knowledge of C and C++ is assumed in order for you to get the most out of this book. If you haven't got C and C++ basics, try "C Made Simple" and "C++ Made Simple" both available from Butterworth Heinemann. Both books provide an excellent starting point for developing C programming skills. This book concentrates on the 'visual' aspects of the environment. Visual C++ is comprehensive and complex, and a book of this size can only give a brief introduction. However, the information contained within the covers of this Made Simple book is enough to give you a flavour of Visual C++ and show you its potential for developing professional Windows applications.
