REVIEWS

“Offering 650 color illustrations total, plus a few photos, this visual reference presents chronological entries on military uniforms worn in specific conflicts around the world, from the 18th century through the present conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Each entry's high-quality, photorealistic illustrations are accompanied by descriptions and info on country, date, and theater of the war. Entries focus mostly on uniforms, but some weapons and equipment are illustrated. The book includes a brief introduction on the origins of military uniforms and their development through history, plus a glossary.”

Out of curiosity, I purchased this book from the local B&N bookstore to read it on my spare time. To my disappointment, the illustrations of the military uniforms of the past and present are not the actual photos, but drawings/paintings done by the artists. Also, the descriptions of each uniform is very brief (only a few paragraphs). And the military insignia and carrying equipment are never mentioned/explained throughout the book. The author, Chris MnNab, thinks his book is an "encyclopedia, " but to many readers (including military buffs), this book is nothing more than a reference material.
