Overview

Looking like a cross between a scene-queen from London's swingin' '60s and C-3PO, New York dance-pop diva-to-be Vitamin C seems a little chilly peering at us from the cover of her self-titled debut. But the sun-drenched alterna-teen dreams on the former Eve's Plum singer's coming-out party bubble forth with a vivacity that makes Britney Spears sound like Rammstein with a chest cold. Leading with the dancehall-tinged up-with-people pop of "Smile," VITAMIN C runs through a market-tested mix of dance-pop, hip-hop, and alt-rock hybrids that could score with Backstreet Boys and Breeders fans alike. Referencing alt-pop history, Ms. C offers a '90s revision of "I Got You" by New Zealand new wavers Split Enz, while "About Last Night" (co-written with Robbie Neville) samples the Clash's "Magnificent Seven." But the best tune here is "Me, Myself and I," which dips into the sound and spirit of Smash Mouth's "Walkin' on the Sun" for a tasty nugget of effortless ear candy.

All Music Guide - Tom Demalon
Vitamin C is the nom de plume for singer Colleen Fitzpatrick, who fronted Eve's Plum for two very good, and overlooked, albums released by 550 Music in the mid-'90s. Here she steps out on her own for a self-titled solo debut that is every bit as engaging as those two releases and more so. The album shows a wider range stylistically from Fitzpatrick than she did with her former band, and the result is a stunning collection that mixes pop, alternative, and dance music. Jamaican dancehall diva Lady Saw guests on the single "Smile," which fuses dancehall and alt-pop to good effect on the opening track. There is no shortage of hooks on Vitamin C">Vitamin C">Vitamin C">{|Vitamin C. "Turn Me On" is raucous pop with quiet spoken passages and a neat lyrical twist, and "Me, Myself and I" cops the vibe of {|War's "Lowrider." Fitzpatrick adopts a breathy delivery over electronic bursts and a hammering drumbeat on "Not that Kind of Girl." She gets funky on "Do What You Want to Do" and explores role reversal on the electro-pop of "Girls Against the Boys." And just when it seems that she can't pull one more hook from her bag of tricks, Fitzpatrick delivers the provocatively playful "About Last Night" and the nostalgic, string-laced "Graduation (Friends Forever)." She even takes an admirable stab at the {|Split Enz">Vitamin C. I think Vitamin C has a very positive attitude. I think her not-so-meaningless songs might inspire some teenagers in their basically humdrum life filled with boyfriends, shopping, and a lot of stuff. So, with this odd review, buy the cd!

I love the song graduation. It makes me cry. The lines that get me are, 1. As we go on, we remember, all the times we, spent together., and 2. We've been friends since,1st grade.

I graduated in the spring of 2000. A Few months before graduation, I heard the song Graduation (Friends Forever) on the radio. It is such a sweet song, I cried the first time I heard it. For those of you who know the song but not the title, the chorus goes like this, ''As we go on, we remember all the times we had together. As our lives change from whatever, we will still be friends forever.'' And that's true too. Good luck and God bless to Blacksburg High School's graduating class of 2000. You can find your old friends at classmates.com To all my good friends from BHS, especially Adam Breske, Abby Carter, Moriel Vandsburger, Lindsay McCartney, and all the others. I love you all so much and thank you so much for being a part of my life. You can reach me at olddilsey@yahoo.com

Vitamin C is so talented and unique, and her CD shows those qualities off. This is the perfect CD for all you people who yearn for a different sound from your typical teen pop girly girls. I especially love 'Me, Myself, and I'. It's a really catchy dance tune and it really gets me moving! 'Smile' is always great on a sad day. All in all, this CD is DA BOMB! If you only buy one CD in your life, this has to be it!

This is such a cool CD! If you can get your hands on it, listen. She describes life as a teenager going through life's journeys.
