What rollicking fun this chamber ensemble has! Just four musicians on recorder, violin, cello and harpischord display a no holds barred version of this perennial classic. From the get-go, the recorder forces its way with cutting, staccato-like bird chirps evoking the rush of spring. The harpischord then serves up a noticeable cantilena in winter's largo. Overall, this is great party music. Definitely not at all recommended for the classical purist, but then again, neither was Vivaldi a traditionalist himself. Out of the box stuff. Recommended, with reservations.
If you are really INTO Vivaldi, Fabio Biondi is your man.
