CriticasA well-known Argentine psychologist and researcher specializing in the life, roles, and problems of contemporary men, Sinay has also served as editor of the Sunday supplement of Argentina's newspaper Clarin and Reader's Digest Latin America. His books on men, love, and relationships include El amor a los 40 (Love at 40, Oceano, 2002) and Ser padre es cosa de hombres (Fatherhood is For Real Men, Oceano, 2001). This is a concise, from-the-heart guide for both men and women on building relationships based on understanding. In 13 brief chapters, Sinay outlines the basic steps needed for a successful relationship and lays out a workbook for self-exploration and assessment. Readers must have a willingness to learn about themselves and their partners, he argues, a desire to explore and discuss their similarities and differences, and a commitment to learn from each other. Sinay also lists the necessary "working skills" for living together, including asking about each other's needs and listening without censoring. Although brief, the chapters are dense with case scenarios and discussion questions. Occasional Argentine regionalisms and archaic verbs don't detract from the message. Strongly recommended for all public and academic libraries and bookstores.
