The Australian[Pyne's] book is a tour de force of critical commentary and explanation. Voice and Vision is an engaging literary performance in its own right.

The main point of the book is the unoriginal advice to try to turn non-fiction into a narrative. But it is written like a textbook and begins with the author apologizing for not writing it like a story.
Obviously history can be written like a story. The challenge is with other kinds of serious non-fiction (like a book on writing serious non-fiction). The author has some useful tips and includes some good examples, but ultimately fails to deliver.
