Overview

A new series by the author of the best-selling S•A!

Hime Kino’s dream is to one day do voice acting like her hero Sakura Aoyama from the Lovely? Blazer anime, and getting accepted to the prestigious Holly Academy’s voice actor department is the first step in the right direction! But Hime’s gruff voice has earned her the scorn of teachers and students alike. Hime will not let that stand unchallenged. She’ll show everyone that she is too a voice acting princess, whether they like it or not!!

To make matters worse, Sakura’s grouchy son, Senri, is in Hime’s class, and he seems determined to stomp on her dreams. He even has the nerve to call Lovely? Blazer stupid! But Hime won’t be deterred by naysayers, her new nickname (“Gorilla Princess”), or even getting demoted to the Stragglers group. She’s ready to shine, and nothing is going to stand in her way!

Reads R to L (Japanese Style) for teen audiences.

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
03/01/2014
Gr 6 Up—Hime Kino, 15, aspires to become a famous voice actor like her idol, Sakura Aoyama. She has just entered Holly Academy's voice-acting department, the school from which all of her idols graduated, and Hime is determined to be as successful as they are. Her goal is to win a leading role in the super-popular anime series Magic Warriors: Lovely (Heart) Blazers. Competition is fierce as talent scouts often visit. Hime has to tone down her gruff voice, and she works harder and longer than most to surmount her troubles and to overcome the nickname Gorilla Princess. Hime makes friends with other struggling students who become known as the stragglers. The book is designed to introduce readers to the original Japanese comic format. Interspersed throughout are Minami's side notes covering everything from her editor's suggestions to her first kiss. The author writes from firsthand experience with anime voice actors, and the story is based on her fieldwork. A great choice for anime fans.—Lisa Gieskes, Richland County Public Library, Columbia, SC
