Voicelust: Eight Contemporary Fiction Writers on Style

Voicelust: Eight Contemporary Fiction Writers on Style

by Allen Wier, Don Hendrie Jr.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
This collection contains essays by a diverse group of important contemporary fiction writers: Doris Betts, Wright Morris, Donald Barthelme, Max Apple, George Garrett, John Irving, Lee Smith, and William Gass. Originally prepared for the Alabama Symposium on English and American Literature, the essays vary in approach, from well-ordered analyses of literary style to looser monologues, some only marginally related to the issue of style. But for the most part the writing is thoughtful, provocative, and colorful, shedding light on the elusive concepts of voice and style and on the work of the contributors themselves. Recommended. Michael Hennessy, English Dept., Southwest Texas State Univ.
