Grandaughter was so excited she told her Dad all about what happened when the volcane erupted ...he was barely in the house! She couldn't wait to finish to tell him all about it!

I used this book with a 5th grade special education science class. Their reading ability is quite low for their age, so this Step Into Reading book was appropriate for them. They both learned from and enjoyed the book. I created comprehension questions based on the text and their responses were in complete sentences. These students need lots of reading and writing in addition to learning the 5th grade science curriculum, so this book met their needs. I find it is very rewarding for these children to read an entire book versus struggling through a snippet of a textbook. Again, this book was perfect for this purpose.
