Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
As a multimedia tool, educators will relish the impact that this ideal learning resource will have in the classroom. Children who are fascinated with volcanoes will spend hours pouring over the volumes of information, photographs, and hands-on activities. The forty-eight page book and CD-ROM will work together to improve learning and computer skills. The book sends the researcher to the disk to search for more information and the disk specifies pages where they can view pictures or verify answers. Children are further involved with a variety of interactive challenges. They can pull facts from experts, do a jigsaw tectonic plate puzzle, take a quiz about volcanoes, and play a vocabulary game to find a mystery word before a volcano erupts. Photographs are stunning. There is a bird's-eye view of an island created by an underwater volcano and another photo of a church built on a 280-foot volcanic plug. As part of the "Interfact" series, which covers ancient history, science, and much more, the disk will run on PCs with Windows and Apple Macintosh computers. The fifteen hours of activities should serve as a springboard to future learning. 2000, Two-Can, $14.95. Ages 7 to 12. Reviewer: Laura Hummel
