Children's LiteratureThis book is similar in theme to the early reader Election Day. The monsters in this school are going to elect a class president. They offer a variety of good thing, but Smudge, one of the students does not know what he can do. He thinks all day, but it is his friends who point out all of his good qualities. He is caring, he shares and he is fair. Smudge decides that perhaps he should run for class president and to no one's surprise he wins. The opening pages of the book contain a note to parents and teachers and also some information about the author and illustrator. The concluding pages have activities and discussion questions. The final page is a word list for the text. A very simple and easily understood introduction to civics and the election process. 2003, Children's Press/Scholastic, Ages 5 to 7.
