Overview

Vow Of Gold

Sworn to support King Edward, Sir Alex de Beaumont had to leave his new bride on their wedding night to fight in the Crusades. Captured and left to languish in a lonely prison, the warrior knight is kept alive by the memory of love—and of Lady Katherine's innocent passion as she cried out his name in ecstasy and made him her own. Upon his escape and return to England, he is shocked to find his beloved is about to marry another man…

Kat refuses to forgive him. But Alex will not be gainsaid. He vows to seduce her all over again and his searching kisses reawaken the sensual fire they once knew—until an enemy determined to destroy them both closes in. Now Alex must risk everything for the one woman whose love he wants forever…

Angela Johnson's two favorite subjects are history and romance—and Knight of Love is the result. A full time writer, Angela lives in Topeka, Kansas, with Joe, her very own hero of twenty-one years.

Does not read like a first novel

This is not my normal genre; but the book was recommended to me by a friend.

The story flows well and the characters are sympathetic. You can identify with both of the main characters and throughout the book will be variously impressed and irritated by their behavior as they expose both faults and strengths. One of the common failings you see of new writers is a lack of variety in their subjects; but each player in this story has a distinct and developed voice. You care about them.

The plot is strong and keeps the reader interested and guessing. The period terms add flavor and despite one obvious typo so eloquently explored by another reviewer, the language flowed and read well without being simple.

I've seen a complaint in another review about the intensity of the sex scenes; but I'm not sure what the reader expected! This IS a romance novel, after all, and I've read more graphic material in other genres.

In sum, it's a well written novel and worth a read!

    more from this reviewer

This is a fabulous medieval romance

Katherine of Montclair and Alex de Beaumont marry, but almost immediately after exchanging their vows, he insists he must leave. Alex is sworn to support King Edward I, who is leading a Crusade to take back the Holy Land from the Infidels so on his wedding night he joins his monarch.

Almost a decade has passed since Alex left and never came home. Kat and others assume he died. Instead he lingered in a Saracen prison where he had plenty of time to think about his beloved Kit-Kat, whom he hurt with his departure and his inability to tell her he loved her. Alex vows if he ever returns he will earn her love by showering her with his.

In 1276 Alex comes home to find his Kat about to marry Sir Luc de Joinveille. She rejects Alex's plea saying she despises him and he is not welcome. Alex swears he changed and will prove to her that he has. However, someone wants them kept apart trying to kill either or both of them while Alex also seeks the traitor who left him dead back in the Holy Land.

This is a fabulous medieval romance starring two likable lead characters with well drawn flaws as each fear love for different reasons. He fled from love as he never felt like that before and she believes those she loves leave like him and her late parents. Although the plotters seem like half of England and this over the top of Big Ben (at least the original clock tower of the thirteenth century that is), fans will enjoy the gender war between the kick butt heroine and her born again wannabe champion.

    Not bad

I typically avoid romance novels due to the pitfalls they are so well known for. But the premise of this book intrigued me, so I gave it a try. It is not a bad book, but neither is it as good as some of the other reviews would have you believe.
Stereotypically, the heroine is quite feisty and her hero is devilishly handsome and experienced in the ways of the world. A competition ensues between the two, and they smolder dark looks and heated embraces.
Sigh. The plot was wonderfully fresh at some points, and then would dive into romance mediocrity again.
Perhaps I am alone in this, but I feel the back-story between the two leads was more interesting than the plot itself. The reader gets only a taste of it in the first few pages, and then the story jumps a decade. Too bad--even a flashback would have solidified the emotions and events that Johnson only provides us through dialogue.
All in all, if you want a few steamy scenes, lots of pining and some intrigue in the 13th century, this is your book.

Strong Characters and Great Sex Scenes!

If you're looking for a romance novel with memorable and lively characters, and some great sex scenes, THIS is a great book for you! Kat, the heroine, is as feisty as Scarlett O'Hara and is matched against a strong alpha male counterpart in Alex. These two distinct characters create a lot of sparks and passion in their struggle to reclaim love.

I LOVED this book, and look forward to the next one from this author.
