The Voyage Of The Frog by Gary Paulsen is an astounding book. When I read this book, i never knew what would happen next. In this book, David, the main character is given the Frog by his Uncle Owen who dies sadly of cancer. Owen requested that David sailed out to sea to spread his ashes among the ocean. As David does Owen's upsetting request, there is an amazing adventure ahead of him. Owen, David's uncle, had died of cancer. Owen owned the Frog before he passed away. Owen wanted to know all of things there is to know-but death came too soon. Before he died, Owen gave David his boat, the Frog. The plot of this story is for David to get home, due to the harsh storm he went through. David was supposed to spread Owen's ashes and head home, but the storm came and the boat got beat up by the waves. everything was ruined, and David suffered injuries, also. His clothes were completely soaked, and David had a limited supply of food. David must compete with the ocean to survive. The setting of this book is present-day sailing on the Pacific Ocean on the Frog. The theme of this book is survival. David tries to survive on the Frog. I liked this book because David is always on-task; meaning he gets done what needs to get done and doesn't worry so much that he doesn't get things done. I also liked it because it was a touching story. When I started reading about Owen when he was sick, Gary Paulsen described how Owen looked with his cancer. He was pale and weak, and there are other words Paulsen used that described Owen, and I immediately thought of my mother when she was sick. She was pale, no hair anywhere, and most of all, weak. When I started reading further in the book, David became alone and I thought of The Ugly Duckling when it was alone and sad, too. A related book I have read is probably be Elsewhere because Liz tries to get back to her home, too.

The Voyage of Frog an overall pretty good book. It is an adventure and an action book. The book is for mainly for young readers aged from 10-15. The reason for this review is to inform readers of how much of a good book this is.

Description and summary of main points
The author of the book is a big fan of sailing and the ocean, probably because he grew up on the ocean. The book is a somewhat fictional book, but mostly leans toward nonfiction. The reason the book is realistic is because the author knew what he was talking about because of personal experience.
I'm judging the book on the realism, how the story flows, and the number of pages.
The main conflict in the book is when David goes out to scatter his dead Uncles ashes in the sea. Owen, his uncle, asked him to scatter them where no land can be seen. When David is out of sight of land a massive violent storm strikes.
Evaluation
David and Owen have a close relationship, and both love to sail. When Owen gets cancer before he dies, Owen ask David to scatter his ashes out at sea. When the storm strikes David tries to put down the sails to he won't get swept away by the wind, but the wind was to strong and David lost control of the sails and was hit on the head by the sail pole. David made it inside and went unconscious during the storm. When he woke up it was calm and no wind was blowing. After he figured out there was no way for him to make it home without wind he started looking at what materials he had to survive. He gets concerned when he finds out that he doesn't have much food, but his spirits are lifted when he finds out he has plenty of water. He goes through many bad times, like when he is attacked by a shark, or when he is almost ran over by an oil tanker.
Over al I think the book achieves its goal of a entertaining thriller. Also the book is as good as or better than other books I've read in the same genre.

Conclusion
The Voyage of the Frog is an overall pretty good book. The Voyage of the Frog is a book about a boy named David and He takes His uncle Owens ashes out to sea to scatter them in the water. Anyone who wants a good book that is exciting and fast paced you should try this book.

The Voyage of the Frog

My book is called The Voyage of the Frog. Gary Paulsen wrote it. David Alspeth is the main character in this story. He is 14 years old. He loves sailing with his Uncle Owen on the open sea. On a sorrowful day David¿s Uncle Owen dies from cancer. David then has to sail out to the sea and fulfill his Uncles dying wish, to have his ashes spread out to sea. One problem, a big storm hits David. He is then strung off course and can¿t find his way home. He has to struggle just to survive. He has to survive getting his boat attacked by a shark. A giant boat almost runs him over! This story starts in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California, and stretches all the way to Baja California. Although it doesn¿t say when exactly it takes place, it seems to take place in the present. I believe the theme for this story is that if you keep trying you will succeed. I loved this book, it is one of my favorite books. It is very intense and keeps you reading all nightlong (that¿s what I did) I have had some similar feelings like David felt. I have been lost before in the desert while riding quads. I have also felt very lonely at times, which is the way he felt because he was out in the middle of the ocean without anyone. Hatchet is written by the same author and is based around the plot of getting lost. In my opinion The Voyage of the Frog is one of the best books I have ever read.

Good Book

The Voyage Of The Frog is an okay book in the fact that it kind of talks about the same thing throughout the book and has no real exciting sections in it. It kind of carries on though the book saying the same thing over and over agian. I dident like the fact that his purpose in the story was to spread ashes and to sail this boat to honor his uncle and never let his spirit die. Good book overall but carries on the same topic for way too long. Good but not recomended.

This was the worst book I have ever read. It dragged on and on, never reaching a pivotal point. Horribly written, don't read it.

waste of words

I didn't like Voyage of the Frog a whole lot, mostly because it was poorly written. It is about a boy named David who is sent to scatter the ashes of his dead uncle in the Sea of Japan. Pretty bad stroyline, huh? Well, it gets even worse. David gets stuck in the middle of the ocean (somehow) and it seems like he does nothing from there. Paulsen could seriously sum up a majority of the chapters by writing 'David stayed in the Frog and did absolutely nothing'. There has to be some sort of plot twist. The only exciting part I can think of is when David encounters a group of whales, and that's not really exciting, due to the fact that it is poorly written. Don't read it.

An old Favorite

When I was in junior high this was the only book I ever read on my own, other than the assigned literature. I graduated and ever since then every time I pick up a book I remember how much I enjoyed reading this book. It's not the greatest literature ever written but the 'Voyage of the Frog' has stayed with me since junior high. Basically I enjoyed reading this book and am still reading it today. I recomend this book to anyone whos just looking to read a good easy to read story.

Now THIS is an adventure book.

THE VOYAGE OF THE FROG is about a 14 year old boy named David Alsepth who wants to fulfill his uncle's wish and so David sets sail in the FROG(boat),and David has enormous adventures, but on the way there and back David has some of problems.

It was a good book but it wasn't as good as some of the other Paulsen books, like the Hatchet.

Great book

The voyage Of the frog is the best book I have read you have to read it.It is about a boy David that is put up to a task from his close uncles death, this task is Hard for he boy due to the fact that there are a bunch of obsticles he encounters! THIS IS A MUST READ BOOK!!!

WOW!

This was a story of troubles and lots of action. There was a lot of problem solving and thinking. Good for people ages 11-13.
