Hi, I'm Dorothy Ann, one of the kids in Ms. Frizzle's class. When we started learning about volcanoes, I thought we'd just be studying them in books -- but Ms. Frizzle had other ideas. She took us all the way to Hawaii, where we waded through lava and saw a real volcano blow its top. We had a great time -- even though the trip was sometimes almost too hot to handle!

At first I was disappionted with the book - printing was poor and the illustrations were small and in black and white. Having said that it was a huge success with my 4yr old son (just turned 4). He remembered lots for the facts so much so that on one occasion in nursery he talk all about volcanoes when there was a class about it. The nursery also used the book to create an erupting volcano and I can say with hand on heart that other children in the nursery were talking about it a lot. I would recommend it to anyone but would also recommend that the publishers use better illustrations (bigger and perhaps in colour).

My son really enjoyed this book. He was preparing for his schools annual science fair and was making a volcano. So, this book was absolutely perfect for that. There were lots of facts and information throughout the story. The best part that I liked (as a parent) was that in back of the book they had a "Questions" page to challenge the child to make sure they comprehended what they read and an "Answers" page to see if they were correct.

I think the book was very nice and funny because it had new characters and lots of science. I liked the part of the book when they went in the crater. bpt
