Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
Praise for Tim Miller’s previous book, NASCAR Now:

“The must-have players’ guide.” The book combines action photographs with descriptive dialogue geared towards the newest fans.”
School Library Journal

“Well written and well researched... a fine book.”
The Toronto Star

VOYA - Dawn Talbott
In this eye-pleasing selection, Miller takes readers under the hood and into the world of auto racing, including road racing, oval track racing, and drag racing. One of the greatest aspects of this book is the abundance of lively colors. The illustrations include many great photographs, but there are also a lot of colors used in borders and backgrounds, making each page visually appealing. One area that could be a little stronger, however, is the size of the photographs. Although a handful of photographs take up nearly half a page, most are smaller, and some details are difficult to discern. A photo of the cockpit and dashboard of a NASCAR stock car shows many switches and gauges, but readers would be able to appreciate the complexity of the setting that surrounds drivers if the photo was larger. The writing style is pretty straightforward, although some passages that describe technical aspects of the sport are a little difficult to understand, especially if the reader does not have prior knowledge regarding cars or auto racing. Mentions of particular makes and models of cars are nearly moot points for readers not familiar with those listed. The depth of coverage is good for basic introductory information. Sidebars offer interesting tidbits of extra information that readers will enjoy. Younger readers will take pleasure in features that focus on a youth who is successfully competing in an area of auto racing.
