Overview

Love. It’s right up there with air, food, and water as the most necessary of ingredients for existence. And yet it is one of the hardest things to find, and perhaps an even harder thing to hold on to.

The truth is you’re not perfect, and neither is your partner. But you can be perfectly imperfect together. In Wabi Sabi Love, international bestselling author and relationship expert Arielle Ford applies the wisdom of Wabi Sabi—the ancient Japanese idea of illuminating the beauty in imperfection—to love relationships. Wabi Sabi Love is the practice of exploring, embracing, and cherishing the quirks, irritations, and limitations that make you and your partner unique and that form your shared history as a couple.

Wabi Sabi Love provides the tools to see yourself, your partner, and your partnership in an entirely new light, develop a deep and profound appreciation for each other, and experience more balance, harmony, and joy in your relationship than ever before. Wabi Sabi Love teaches you to:

  • turn conflict into connection and differences into mutual passions
  • move from “annoyed” to “enjoyed”
  • establish new beliefs and habits that better serve your relationship
  • cultivate humor, humility, and generosity to diffuse those moments when you would normally retreat or slip into tired judgments, criticisms, or resentments

Using real-life stories of couples who applied Wabi Sabi and found their relationships transformed, Wabi Sabi Love can revolutionize your relationship whether you’re navigating financial challenges, raising children, caring for aging parents, coping with a seemingly insurmountable betrayal, or just facing mundane frustrations and everyday stressors. By shifting the focus from what’s wrong to what’s right, Wabi Sabi Love reveals a pathway to true love and your happily ever after.

Library Journal
Ford (The Soulmate Secret) develops the Japanese aesthetic, known as wabi sabi, of finding beauty in imperfection into a relationship model where couples are taught to focus on what's right with the other person and not what's wrong. Ford argues that though all couples have irreconcilable differences, they can use the wabi sabi method to embrace rather than try to eliminate the tastes, opinions, and unique viewpoints of their partner. In other words, vive la différence! This is certainly easier to say than to do, but Ford provides numerous examples of couples who have accomplished this ideal. It's a worthwhile read for anyone in a relationship.

This book is based on a failed understanding of a foreign artistic
concept. The author has borrowed the term wabi-sabi and severely warped
the definition to fit her own needs. The stories in the book aren't
terrible but they don't really provide any substantive advice. It's
mostly fluff that gives the reader a chance to pretend they are doing
something the change their relationship. I guess it could be helpful
creating change in someone's life but I think there is more substantial
    relationship advice in Dr. Seuss.

My name is John Cali. Recently my partner, Barbara, bought Arielle's book—it was a gift for both of us. And what a gift it was! Last night I picked it up, intending to spend a week or so reading it. But I got so immersed in it I finished the whole thing just a few hours later!

Arielle is a talented writer and story-teller. She masterfully illustrates her teachings with fascinating relationship stories. The stories made me realize none of us is ever alone in our relationship challenges and joys—or in any other aspect of our lives.

Arielle gave me many insights I'd never had before. (And I've been around a long time!) This wonderful book will certainly have a positive effect on Barbara's and my relationship. I will heartily recommend it to my friends and family.

    Thank you, Arielle!

My husband and I have been together in a loving and committed soulmate relationship for almost 12 years now. We help single women do the inner reflection and transformation to attract their soulmate. We have many successful clients and this book, Wabi Sabi Love is now our wedding gift to our clients! Wabi Sabi is the best foundation to start any marriage off, in my opinion.
And if you've been in relationship for awhile and are finding that you need to "get the dust off" your relationship and make it shiny again... this book will help you do that. Not with any tips and tricks or manipulation, but coming from a genuine and loving and authentic place of compassion.
I read this book in a week. I devoured it... the stories made me cry (in a good way), and the exercises helped me dig deeper (didn't think THAT was possible, after all of the self-inquiry I've done for the last 20 years!) into the love I feel for my beloved husband. Thank you, Arielle, for writing such a timely book. I believe that we all need more compassion for each other, and that the world will be better because of it.
    Blessings!

As a therapist hearing from hurting people all day long, it was eminently refreshing to read Wabi Sabi Love and learn that the vision I constantly extend to people - that they can create a loving, passionate, happy relationship - exists among many, many couples. Arielle Ford did a bit of journalism in tracking down the true stories behind her many friends' happy marriages only to learn that those good stories were not the result of luck but effort. She allows us to peek in on the lives of people with all sorts of baggage including infidelity and divorce and how, in applying the principle of connecting with another person for who he or she is rather than as we want that person to be, we can truly be happy with our partner. My favorite story was that of Susan and Tim whose marriage fell apart through neglect. They found themselves in Italy for business just as the marriage was coming to an end and that very break in their routine combined with the natural beauty around them led to the idea of quitting jobs and staying for a while. There, they reconnected and rekindled their marriage. Most people don't have the wherewithal to just quit a job and live abroad for a year; however, the message is "Maybe quitting isn't the worst thing in the world and if you can't do that, carve out more time for those you love. Put them first." That's a message I wholeheartedly support. Read this book and find out how people can create their own happiness.---author of The Healing Is Mutual: Marriage Empowerment Tools to Rebuild Trust and Respect--Together.

Ron and I read Wabi Sabi Love together and it has turned up the fire in our relationship. We’ve even created our own little “codes” to remind each other of who we want to be in our relationship. The simple practice of Wabi Sabi has given us more compassion and understanding. What used to irritate us about each other now makes us laugh…or at least a smile. This is a heart-warming book that everyone should read.

This is quite simply, an extraordinary book. I thought I was mnerely lucky to have a fabulous marriage but now I realize, after reading WABI SABI LOVE it's not luck at all. Somehow, Larry and I have managed to accidentally chomp onto the principles that the author, Arielle Ford, instinctively understands and has translated into prose. She has written the quintessential how-to book and, step by step, she perfectly teaches couples how to achieve the sweetness, the smartness, the sexiness, the enduring FABULOUS-NESS of the book that does dae to speak its name--WABI SABI LOVE. If you have a partner you adore--buy this book and read it together.
Read it out loud! You'll thank me.
    A huge fan.

This book is amazing! It really has helped me understand how to communicate with my husband in a way that is productive and has ease to it.  I love the way Arielle writes, and she really is able to get to the heart of how to go deeper in love, and let go of the stuff that really doesn't matter. I would highly recommend you read this book!

Is it possible that his socks that don't make it to the hamper can actually be an opportunity to develop even deeper love? I didn't think so... until I read Wabi Sabi Love. Based on the ancient Japanese practice of loving all that is, including abandoned socks, Arielle Ford shows how these moments can not only be an opportunity for joyful expression but also an opportunity for us to release the things that really don't matter so we can be immersed in what does. I never really wanted to be a nagging kind of partner who quashes the moment because something wasn't perfect. But, I admit, I was. I feel now equipped in being able to keep the laughter alive and able to express my petty annoyances in a healthy, loving, fun kind of way. I love this book!

After reading Arielle's first book, Soulmate Secret, I have to say I am now in an amazing relationship, so I decided it was time to tuck in with her  latest book, Wabi Sabi Love, not that I have as many free evenings- lol.  I adore this book .  I think Arielle bring's home the most important point which is we get what we focus upon.  And it does take an active focus to direct our thoguths towards what we like, as apposed to what we don't like.   I love Arielle's warm and easy writing style.  I feel like I'm listening to a good friend as opposed to an 'expert in the field' and yet she is that too!  I highly reccomend  this book  to anyone looking to ignite the passion in their relationship- both men and women.

Guaranteed to turn your wife off

This is not a good book for men. Hetero women like men who act like men and not men who act like women. This book tells you to relate to your wife like a woman would and that just doesn't work.

I started reading this book a few weeks ago. It is the perfect book for people who is interested on growing with his/her partner. A book that needs to be read to-get-her. It helps you understanding the different aspects of love and how to handle them. Wonderful stories, excercises, and spiritual messages. I bought two more just because it is so good that i need to share it with my siblings. This is a must have book!
