Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
The Funny Fingers board book series by Mark Shulman, illus. by Jenny Harris, features die-cut holes through the middle of each book, so that children's fingers can become part of the scenes. In Amazing Animals, a pair of die-cut holes through the book allows youngsters to create the trunks of two "entertaining elephants," the tentacles of the "outrageous octopus" and more. Fingers become necessary equipment in the die-cut hole for Jazzy Jobs (a carpenter's hammer, a helicopter propeller, etc.); while in Super Sports a finger becomes the kicker's leg in "football fun!" and a club for a "great golfer!" In Wacky Weekend, kids' fingers through the double die-cut holes throughout become the legs of a trapeze artist, skateboarder and dancer. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
Children's Literature
Part of the "Funny Fingers" series, this board book is designed for interaction. There are two holes cut out for little fingers. For example, the holes on the cover let the fingers pretend that they are tongues sticking out at the reader. Suring this weekend full of activities, the young boy swings from a trapeze, the young girl is exercising and later funning with her dog. These kids are no couch potatoes and are all show engaged in a variety of activities that require a real expenditure of energy. It is a good message for a society in which nearly half its members are overweight due to overeating and lack of exercise. The images are brightly colored and amusing and the text is alliterative. 2003, Sterling, Ages 1 to 3.
