    I Also Recommend:

    An Original Plot

I really enjoyed this plot concerning a marriage of convenience. The groom has been mislead about his plain little bride's financial state and resorts to gambling to reverse his straightened finances. Angry at being ignored, his new wife goes out in disguise to see just what her husband is up to late at night. When they encounter one another in a gaming hell, he's intrigued by the beauty who is besting men at the card tables and doesn't recognize that it's his own wife. Very good plot with enough passion and humor to keep you turning the pages late into the night.

    Marvelous story, romance, emotions !!

This is an exciting, engaging story, which has you really rooting for the heroine AND the hero, although the hero has to earn our love(but wow, does he ever earn it!). Guy has married Emily under false pretences, and she is crushed when she learns the truth. She wants not only escape, but revenge, and in a brilliant plot turn, Emily becomes someone else (I don't wish to spoil the plot!)... You must read the book, to see what I mean. Guy, in the meantime, wants to win her love and her trust, but it is a hard, long road. I loved every moment of it, loved the love story, and the romance, and the amazing strength of her characters Emily is an emotional survivor. For fans of Diane Gaston (and Diane Perkins), there's a relationship in this novel to another romance of hers called THE MYSTERIOUS MISS M, which I won't reveal here. It's really fun to read about what's going on with characters we've met in her previous stories! Diane Gaston has a very beautiful writing style her prose is fresh and elegant, and she has clearly done a lot of research into the Regency period --not just the mores of high society, but the ways that people spoke then. They did use English in different ways in the 1700's, and it's here in her novel. What I love about that is the fact that it pulls me so deeply into the time period, and thus into the story... it doesn't make it any HARDER to read, never fear! The whole story just feels more REAL than many romances I have read. Treat yourself to a beautiful, exciting romance THE WAGERING WIDOW wins, hands down!

    SUPERB Romance, fabulous reading!

The plot of THE WAGERING WIDOW has been given in other reviews, so I won't repeat it here. I simply must say that I love this book! Reading the book, you may wonder how the complex plot will ever unravel into something happy, but it does, and in such satisfying ways! I was left feeling uplifted and joyful at the end, for this is no ordinary romance. According to her bio, Ms. Gaston has a background in social work/counseling, and it's put to amazing use in each of her novels. We see and understand their very complex motivations and desires, we see their innate goodness, and we fervently want them to be together. Gaston's prose is beautiful, in some places even poetic, but never affected, forced, or false. It feels very much like reading a novel which happens to have a beautiful romance within it. But don't think she doesn't write great love scenes... Chapter 15 is the longest, most drawn-out bit of seduction I've *ever* read ...brilliant and stunning and very, very sensual. If you want your hero and heroine to feel genuine and deep love for each other, for all the right reasons, you will be *in love* with this book. I think she has crafted a new subgenre in romance I call it 'realism in romance' , or 'realistic Regency,' and by that I refer to her fearless portrayal of people who come from families we can often relate to (the heroine's is completely dysfunctional, and the hero's is pretty messed up, too, but not as badly), who have real demons of their own to battle, and who are fighting their way out of these situations with their brains, their hearts, and with love, which includes forgiveness, and a willingness to start anew. I will be buying every book Ms. Gaston writes, the day it is released[also the ones she writes as Diane Perkins!]. I've so enjoyed her other titles, as well. They are truly the stuff of which dreams are made.
