Overview

Inspired by and reminiscent of Samuel Beckett’s absurdist stage play “Waiting for Godot,” this Y2K theater comedy satirizes the frivolous extravagance of the mega-rich.

Bob’s Billionaire Boat boasts the world’s 2,000 richest people on it, and will enable them to celebrate the arrival of the year 2000 twice in a row by crossing the International Dateline on New Year's Eve 1999. The co-captains of the boat — two regular guys — keep themselves amused with endlessly silly banter while occasionally debating whether the whole thing is just a fictional stage play.

Meanwhile, two Wall Street traders who are bitter about missing the wealth cutoff for the billionaire cruise are determined to blow up the boat and thereby become the two richest people on earth.

This satire offers the ultimate experience of comical absurdism, with fun philosophical musings about everything and nothing, as the zaniest collection of billionaires ever to gather on a single vessel prove that there's still plenty to complain about at the top.

NOTE: You can get this work, along with six others, in ”Stories and Scripts: an Anthology" for far less. The cost of buying all of the stories individually amounts to about twice the price of the anthology. As an added bonus, the collection also includes three works that aren't available separately.

Meet the Author

Zack Love graduated from Harvard College, where he tried to create a bachelor’s degree in Women. With the bachelor portion of that degree in hand, he settled in New York City but – to afford renting his bed-sized studio – found himself flirting mostly with a computer screen and stacks of documents. Determined not to die a corporate drone, Zack decided to sacrifice sleep for screenwriting, an active social life, and Internet startups offering temporary billion-dollar fantasies.

To feed his steady diet of NYC nightlife, he regularly crashed VIP parties in the early 2000s and twice bumped into his burgeoning crush, a Hollywood starlet. But – much to Zack’s surprise – neither of those awkward conversations led to marriage with the A-list actress. Zack eventually consoled himself by imagining fiascoes far worse than those involving his celebrity crush. In the process, he dreamed up a motley gang of five men inspired by some of his college friends and quirky work colleagues. And thus was born "Sex in the Title." But the novel is not autobiographical: Zack never had his third leg attacked by any mammal (nor by any plant, for that matter). In fact, keeping his member safe has been one of Zack’s lifelong goals – and one of the few that he’s managed to accomplish.

I'm going to start this by saying I have always had a love hate relationship with theatre so for me reading this was either going to be a huge hit or an epic failure and I can honestly say that I loved it! It had me laughing all the way through and the dialogue between Sam & Al had me in absolute pieces! I loved the wide range of characters and all of their quirks, it made them seem more human! I'm actually a little ashamed to admit that I would have loved to be on that cruise!! I never though in a million years that I would actually enjoy reading this so I was pleasantly surprised by just how much I did in fact enjoy it. If this was made into a play I would go and see it and drag all my family and friends along as well, it is just that funny! It has everything I want in a play and more! Zack has a knack of throwing everything needed into whatever he is writing and then that extra something that you never knew it needed!

This review is MY opinion of this book. Please read the synopsis and any other reviews before deciding on purchasing this book. Zack Love took me out of my comfort zone, again. Waiting for 2000 is a play. Al and Sam are the co-captains of Bob's Billionaire Boats. They are taking the 2000 richest people in the world to the International Date Line to celebrate the year 1999 ending a second time. During the trip the guests pop in with their quirkiness. A Chinese man who has gold teeth and uses gold toothpicks, two rich women who are all about voicing their discomfort and of course, Bob. There is a love story, and Al, who although being told he is in a play, doesn't believe he is in a play. So come and sail on Bob's Billionaire Boat and meet the richest people in the world who feel their problems are the most important problems. You might even get a bang out of it.......This play will give you the giggles and make you shake your head as these people come to the captains with their "problems". Does love win? Does Al ever realize he is in a play? Do they celebrate the coming of 2000 twice? One click and find out....

You know those days when you come from work (Usually on a Monday!) after having a grueling, stressful day? When all you want to do is wind down and relax, but walk through the door only to find that your cat has puked up a fur ball on your brand new area rug and the kids have piled dirty dishes sky high in the sink instead of putting them in the dishwasher? You know that feeling ... you just need a break- an escape from reality! Well, Zack Love's "Waiting for 2000" is DEFINITELY that escape! Zack's stage play takes you aboard a cruise ship on a comedic adventure with a boatful of zany crewmembers and overly eccentric billionaire guests. Throw in a couple of jealous, bumbling Wall Street traders into the mix and more craziness ensues! True to Zack Love's witty writing form, "Waiting for 2000" provides you with lots of laughs and head shaking theatrical moments that will undoubtedly make your bad day so much better!
