Overview

This is the book everyone is talking about. WALK ON: The Spiritual Journey of U2 tackles the issues and questions everyone wants to know but no one has directly explored about the world's biggest rock band.

Throughout WALK ON, author Steve Stockman mines the band's public works and interviews to see if Bono found what he was looking for on their Popmart tour - "baby Jesus under the trash." He follows the band from their early days in Dublin's Shalom Christian Fellowship all the way to their most recent, and most spiritually profound, Elevation tour. Along the way, he examines not only the band's story, but also the symbolism and story behind their songs, and the larger issues of church, culture and the Christian Ghetto. It is an eye-opening book for all readers. Who knows, it may turn out that it's Christians who have misunderstood U2 - and, possibly, the Gospel itself.

the book was interesting, and presented a side of U2 that is not often seen.

Overall i enjoyed the book. It showed a side of U2 that many people and fans may not know about. I did enjoy reading about the history of the band, which in part explains thier passion and drive to offer themselves up in service for others less fortunate in third world countries. I also thought the book did a good job in explaining the background behind some of thier songs. Knowing some details about the history of the band and where they came from brings to life some of thier songs. While the book appears to be set up and attempts to be in cronological order, it does often jump around and is somewhat difficult to follow at times. This may cause a difficult read for someone that is not a fan or does not know that much about U2. However, for any one that is a fan, i believe this is a great and very informative read. I enjoy U2's songs a lot more after reading this book.

    Highly recommended

This book is well written and thorough. It answered all of my questions about U2 and provided lots of insight into their very deep lyrics. I could barley put this book down when I started reading it.
