Overview

A delightful new novel from the author of Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts.

Juliet's hiding from her feelings about the recent loss of Ben, the love of her life. If it weren't for having to walk Ben's loyal dog, Minton, she'd never leave their half-finished house. Then her mother asks her to take her elderly lab, Coco, along. One dog leads to another, and soon Juliet's the unofficial town pet-sitter. And when she takes on a lonely spaniel, and gets to know its attractive owner, she realizes that her emotions aren't as easy to handle as her canine charges...

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
English author Dillon (Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts) relies heavily on coincidence in her latest, the story of Juliet Falconer, a widow mired in anger and sorrow since her husband Ben's passing 10 months earlier. Juliet continues to live in their unfinished house, reluctant to call the builders for fear of betraying the plans she and her husband had made. As Juliet becomes acquainted with the raucous rock n' roll family next door and their friend, Lorcan Hennessey, who eventually helps Juliet repair her house, she takes on pet-sitting jobs that allow her to return to normalcy and find a romantic connection. Though Juliet's anger is initially off-putting, her transformation back to her likable self makes for a believable transition from grief. Dillon does an excellent job of conveying the depths of her character's loss without letting the story grow tedious. The characters are charming and real, though it's fairly obvious who Juliet will end up falling for. Agency: Inkwell Management. (Dec.)

beautiful story of love, life, loss

This is a beautiful story of love, life, loss, family, friendship and new beginnings. Walking Back to Happiness is a true testament of how life is a roller coaster and we cannot always have total bliss. We need to have a few bad times in order to grow and live. I adore Juliet and the way she works through her grief and loss with her family, and her new friends gently urging her along, even though she did not see it at first. The dogs Minton, Coco and the rest truly capture your heart as well. Lucy Dillon has written a wonderful feel-good book and I look forward to reading more of her work. I absolutely adored this book. It was a perfect ten!!!! The writing is wonderful, the characters are so believable . I also enjoyed Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts, but I think this book will remain one of my all time favorites. I'm sure at some time I will read it again, and that I will enjoy it just as much the second time around. If you think this is for dog lovers only you are wrong....this book is for anyone who just wants to read a wonderful story.

Ms Dillon has created characters that are likable, you hope that by the end of the book they will have found peace as well as happiness. Although I expected more of a Marley and Me, this is about human beings and the tragedies and disappointments many of us have to cope with through a life time. As a dog lover I was rooting for Minton to save his mistress. This was such an encouraging book to read, I can't wait to read the next Lucy Dillon.

    Disappointing

This book could have been so much more interesting but personally, I think the story fell short of the title
