Overview

The Maltese Islands of Malta, Gozo and Comino bask in sunshine at the heart of the Mediterranean, between Europe and Africa. History has ensured that the islands have been colonised time and time again, leaving them with a colourful and complex history and heritage. The islands are a popular tourist destination. They offer plenty of historic walks, stunningly beautiful and dramatic architecture, and a surprising amount of excellent scenery, especially around their cliff coastlines. The guide offers 33 walks round the three Maltese Islands. They range from heritage trails round historic cities and towns to coastal walks and exploration of inland areas. The introduction provides practical information on getting to and around the islands, accommodation and language. There is also useful background information on Maltese history.

Meet the Author

Paddy Dillon is a prolific outdoor writer with over fifty guidebooks to his name, as well as more than a dozen booklets and brochures. He writes for outdoor magazines and other publications, as well as for tourism organisations.

Paddy lives near the Lake District and has walked in every county in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales; writing about walks in every one of them. He enjoys simple day walks, challenging long-distance walks, and is a dedicated island-hopper. He has led guided walks and walked extensively in Europe, as well as in Nepal, Tibet, Africa and the Rocky Mountains of Canada and the USA.

While researching routes, Paddy works directly onto a palmtop computer, so that his descriptions are precise, having been written at the very point at which the reader uses them. He takes his own photographs, has appeared on radio and TV, and is a member of the Outdoor Writers' Guild.
