Library Journal - Library Journal
Less well known than their Swiss and Austrian counterparts, the Alps of France and northwest Italy begin near the Mediterranean and rise northward. These remote and impressive peaks, valleys, and meadows have been preserved by the French and Italian governments as part of their national park systems; the trails therein are the subject of this new book by Lieberman (The Outdoor Traveler's Guide to the Alps, Stewart Tabori & Chang, 1991). More than 100 trails in four French parks and one Italian park are described, with concise information about each trail's difficulty, distance, high point, and total elevation gain clearly stated. The book also offers information on travel accommodations, weather, language, safety, history, and the environment. Lieberman (whose husband provides the photos-not seen) presents a readable and informative guide to the Alps; of special interest to libraries with strong travel and recreation collections.-Pamela Bellows, Northwestern Connecticut Community-Technical Coll.
