Walking the Sacred Path: Spiritual Exercises for Today

( 1 )

Overview

Those familiar with the music of Dan Schutte are in for a great treat here. As in his music, he deals with themes of longing and desire for God, the hungers of the human heart, unfulfilled human hopes and dreams, and the profound happiness of finding one's home in God. The "exercises" here are loosely based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, and the goal is the same for both: to draw readers into a personal, living, growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

A Simple Book That Changed My Ability to Pray and Become Closer to God

I never write critiques but had to for this one. So many books on sprituality inspire, encourage and help us along in our journey of faith but many fail in really helping us to pray. The Spiritual Exercises taught by St. Ignatius of Loyola and the Jesuits have been great for the retreat centers but often the method was too achedemic for me to grasp. Simply put, this book help me be quiet, to be aware of my surroundings and to beging to "listen" and to know Jesus Christ more fully. I stopped talking to God and learned how to listen. I just bought the companion CD set of Dan Schutte's music and realized this is the person who wrote most of my favorite songs we sing in church. I started from the beginning with the music. Oh my, what a treasure the book and the 30 songs are that go with the 30 exercises. I feel like I'm on a spiritual retreat. I gave this to my daughter and now she the other mothers are using the book and music with their prayer group.
