Editorial Reviews

KLIATT
This companion book to a BBC television series is straightforward and amply illustrated, both in color and b/w. The work is divided into 10 chapters covering such topics as dinosaur diets, family life, dinosaur evolution and birds, and extinction. Besides its short bibliography it contains a list of best Web sites, something that many of today's young dinosaur fans will appreciate. Set up in short paragraphs, it discusses the egg-laying habits of dinosaurs, which was the fastest dinosaur, how long did it take for one to reach adult size, and new finds. (Some of the information is more scientific than I have indicated in the above list.) Dinosaurs were the ruling animals for 170 million years but according to the author, a geologist at the University of Bristol in England, the fate of all species is to die out sooner or later, and the causes of the extinction of dinosaurs is still an ongoing debate. This would make an excellent reference book wherever there is interest. (Editor's note: a companion book to this is Martill, Dave, & Naish, Darren. Walking With Dinosaurs; The Evidence (DK, BBC. 176p. illus. index. c2000. isbn 0-7894-7167-1. $14.95.), describing archeological and scientific discoveries.)
