Overview

Phil Spector's otherworldly gift for production left a palm print on the history of American popular music that couldn't be overshadowed even by his increasingly erratic behavior and all the horrific events it led to as the years spun on. In his best days, Spector and his patented "Wall of Sound" production techniques helped define both the girl group movement and much of the teen pop of the early '60s, not to mention later work with everyone from the Beatles to the Ramones. Wall of Sound: The 1961-62 Productions focuses closely on some of Spector's earliest work, with hits from proto-girl groups like the Crystals, doo wop from acts like Curtis Lee, and heartbreaking ballads such as "Anyone But You" by Ruth Brown. The 30 tracks in total range from huge hits to lesser-known acts that Spector worked his magic on in his prolific early days in the studio.
