"The best and most important book about animals written in 2010"—The San Francisco Chronicle

The author of the New York Times bestseller The Lost Dogs shares the heartwarming tale of one plucky, unwanted pit bull who achieved international celebrity.
Today, Wallace is a champion. But in the summer of 2005, he was living in a shelter, a refugee from a suspicious pit bull–breeding operation. Then Andrew “Roo” Yori entered the picture. A scientist and shelter volunteer, Roo could tell immediately that Wallace was something special. While on his honeymoon, Roo learned that Wallace was about to be put down. Frantic—and even though they already had two dogs—Roo and his wife fought to keep Wallace alive until they could return home to adopt him.
Once Wallace made it home, Roo knew the dog needed a mission, and serendipity led them to the world of competitive Frisbee dogs. It seemed like a terrible idea. Pit bulls are everything that most Frisbee dogs aren’t: large and heavy with thick muscles that can make them look less than graceful. But that was fine with Roo—because part of his mission was to change people’s minds about pit bulls. After overcoming everything from injuries to prejudice against the breed, the unlikely pair became World Champions.
Movingly told by bestselling author Jim Gorant, Wallace will capture the hearts of animal lovers everywhere—and help rescue this popular breed’s unfairly tarnished reputation.

Having already read The Lost Dogs by Jim Gorant I knew that Wallace would not disapoint. I was right! Such an inspirational story about a throw away dog who would later become a world champion. I have a soft spot in my heart for pitbulls since I have one and my brother has two. They are exceptional dogs who have been given a bad rap by certain media outlets. People need to educate themselves before making hasty judgements. A beautifully writtten story. My thoughts and prayers are with Wallace and his entire family following his recent cancer diagnosis. He made a fantastic impact on the disc dog world and will always be a world champion.

I've only read what is on this page and I can't wait to get this book.
Wallace sounds like a book my son and husband should be forced to read.
They think all pits should be put down. They also have seen all the
stories but don't watch Cesar Millan or any of the animal shows out
there. And, they can be very hard-headed but I love them, anyway. I've
got to get this book! :) Moki in Ca.

I enjoyed this book due to the fact that I have a pitbull dog. They are very misunderstood dogs. My Bella is a loving animal as was Wallace. The story is a wonderful story of second chances for Wallace and everyone around him. Great for teens and tweens!!

I've been following Wallace on youtube and facebook for a long time. I was so excited to hear that Jim Gorant was doing a book on Wallace. I pre-ordered the book as soon as it was released. When I got it, I couldn't put it down! I read the entire book in one sitting. Being a Pit Bull owner myself I'm so happy to see more people our there supporting the breed. The anti-pit bull campagne is dying out finally!

I'm so happy to hear about a good book that showcases Pit Bulls in a positive light. The book is heart warming and not too over the top. I'm an avid dog lover and learned so much from the author. Learning about the sport and weight pulling for dogs. It was a great book all around.

I enjoyed Wallace very much. The book was well written, and there was maybe one curse word in the whole book. Some of the parts describing the competitions were rather lengthy, but integral to the story. The end didn't leave me in tears, which I also appreciated very much! I recommend for any dog lover to read this book.

This is an amazing true story of a pit bull. Wallace's owners, Roo(short for Andrew) and Clara are truely caring and responsible pet owners as they saw in Wallace his amazing talent as a "disc catcher". Learning about the process of training for dog disc throwing contests, the description of the contests themselves and everything involved as well as the ups and downs of Roos and Clara's relationship and how Wallace helped to "grow them together" was real and moving. It took me only a few days to complete the book, me, being an extremely slow reader, I couldn't put the book down! After reading the book, I immediately went to their website and the FB website and learned so much more about Wallace, Roo and Clara as well as seeing wonderful videos that made the book come to life. Wallace, Roo and Clara will forever be in my life.

It's very hard to not to want to read this book in one sitting! I am trying to pace myself because I don't want to be done with it! Jim Gorant does a great job of detailing the journey the Yori's have gone through with Wallace and their utter dedication to show what an exceptional dog/athlete Wallace is. It is well written and full of emotion, it really stuck a cord with me after having been lucky enough to meet Wallace and the Yori's. It's so refreshing to see such a positive and educated story being told about a very mis understood breed. Wallace just wanted to be heard and the Yori's took the time, I highly recommend this book!
