Overview

In the year 2057, in a post-apocalyptic world where a polar shift threatens the survivors of a widespread pandemic with extinction, sixteen-year-old genetically enhanced Lily Carmichael has more immediate problems. Her uncle is dying of cancer and her healing abilities are ineffective against the blood ties that bind them. In order to find a cure, Lily must leave the protection of her quiet town and journey to the trading city of Albany, all while avoiding the Industry, an agency that would like nothing better than to study and exploit her abilities.

Seventeen-year-old Will Callahan has been searching for his father since severe storms blasted through the Midwest, killing his mother and sister. When he learns that his father may be in the city, he catches a ride with Lily, a girl who has come to his rescue more than once. As the two embark on a dangerous journey, the tension between them grows. But the secrets Will’s keeping could put Lily in far more danger than traveling to the city with him, and if he was any kind of man, he would have told her to run the minute she found him.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Keeper!, October 11, 2012

This book is a Keeper! It was quite unique and the action kept me hooked. I read this book in one sitting because I was drawn into Lily's world and desperate to get to the end to find out how it all turned out, and oh what a nice twist surprise I found waiting for me!
The novel was well written, and I instantly cared about Lily and the others characters. They were well drawn and believable. I can't wait for the next installment.

I absolutely loved this suspenseful read by PJ Sharon. I may be an adult, but I'm a huge fan of YA fantasy. Sharon doesn't disappoint with plausible and creative characters and innovations to the world as it could be in the not-do-distant future. In addition to compelling characters, the action is so forward-driving I couldn't put this book down! Can't wait to read the next book in the trilogy!

Meet the Author

PJ Sharon is the author of several independently published, contemporary young adult novels, including Molly finalist, HEAVEN IS FOR HEROES, FAB Five finalist ON THIN ICE, and SAVAGE CINDERELLA, Golden Palm and Sheila finalist. WANING MOON is a finalist in the 2012 National Excellence in Romantic Fiction Awards and the Colorado Excellence in Romance Fiction Awards.

On the road to publication, PJ decided that indie-publishing was the best fit for her books. They fall outside the norm for YA fiction in that they are geared toward 16-22 year old readers, a market considered risky with traditional publishers. Hers, however, aren’t your average high school stories. Instead, they are portraits of the real life issues of older teens and their struggles with family, friends, and the guys they fall for. Although the themes are mature, evoking plenty of drama and teen angst, PJ writes with a positive outlook and promises a hopefully ever after end to all of her books. Because of this, readers of all ages will be captivated by the emotional and romantic journeys of her characters.

After a tumultuous youth and a challenging young adulthood that gave her plenty of personal experiences from which to draw, PJ has found her bliss in sharing her wisdom and stories with teens and adults alike. When she isn’t writing and publishing, she is owner of ABSolute Fitness and Therapeutic Body Works, a private practice Massage Therapy and Personal Training business that she founded in 2005.

Writing romantic fiction for the past seven years, and following her destiny to write Extraordinary stories of an average teen-age life, PJ lives with her husband in the Berkshire Hills of Western MA. Check out her website at www.pjsharon.com to check for upcoming releases and to follow her blog.

A YA dystopian to get excited about

(I rated this 4.5) I fell into reading Waning Moon with the quick ease of a cold person entering a warm room, given a cup of hot tea and a comfortable blanket. P.J. Sharon's writing has that perfect mix of 'the essentials' a reader needs: just the right amount of emotion, reaction, action, plot and backstory. The steady pacing, interesting characters and increasingly intense story made me forget where I was. Lily is a strong young woman, a healer, a caregiver to her younger brother and Uncle Sam, loving and still vulnerable. At sixteen, she notices the good looking drifter she helps rescue from one of her uncle's traps in the ground. She knows Sam won't be happy to have a stranger inside their house, but he understands her need to help a wounded person. This drifter, Will, has his own baggage and is searching for someone. Meeting him will impact Lily's world.

In 2057, the world has changed after a virus decimated a sizable chunk of the population and a global shift forces people to create housing and gear to protect themselves from the sun's rays and drastic changes in temperatures.. Food is scarce, trading goods and services is popular, and the government has a secretive organization, the Industry, searching for genetically altered kids who were part of an experiment. Lily and her younger brother, Zephron, are two such kids. When Lily embarks on her trip to Albany to trade, Will accompanies her. Both are on a journey to search for those they love but secrets may put the two in more danger than they know.

Waning Moon is an excellent, entertaining read and I can honestly say I loved it! I really liked Lily and the mysterious Will. Even the secondary characters were likable and what can I say about those two wolves? The futuristic world was unique and easily believable. Lily and Will's growing attraction only added to the intensity of their situations. The actions scenes played out like a movie and I hated for the first part of the series to end. I was just up in Albany two weeks ago and thought about Lily traveling the area in the future. P.J. Sharon has created a story fans of dystopian, futuristic, and general good storytelling can get excited about. Recommended.

    Non-stop action!

Lily Charmichael is a girl with a gift, one which an overbearing government agency known as The Industry wants to get their hands on. The book starts out in a rural town which refuses to come under Industry control, where Lily crosses paths with Will, a young man who has more going on than she is aware of. A trip into the city results in betrayal, a risky escape, and a journey through some unlikely resistance.

Can't say much more than that without giving spoilers, but I enjoyed this book and have already picked up the next one in the set.

I volunteered to read this for an honest review, and I am so glad that I did. This book was absolutely amazing. The lead character, Lily, is a young adult living in a post-apocalyptic world. She lives with Sam and her brother Zeph. Lily's mother was a doctor and while pregnant with her children, agreed to genetic tampering. Lily and her brother both have special abilities, and the book shows Lily's growth from child to young lady and her struggle with being "different". She is confronted with love, attraction, betrayal, fear and many other situations throughout the book.

Will is a young man Lily comes across as she is returning home. She uses her ability to help him and he becomes a pivotal character and a bit of a love interest. He shows himself to multi-dimensional and has surprises of his own.

I love the way this novel surprises the reader with unexpected twists and turns and keeps you guessing until the end. I also offered to read the sequel, Western Desert, and I can;t wait to tell you all about it. Great job Ms. Sharon and I will recommend this for all readers above the age of 10. Note to parents, there is some violence and one scene does have an almost assault on Lily, which may be troubling for younger readers.
