This is a book about first kisses, first bras, and a myriad other "firsts" in a young girl's life while growing up in a Cuban-American community in West New York, NJ during the 1970s. What impact does it have on one's self-esteem to be raised in a culture that encourages one to always strive to be other than one's authentic self?

This book was great! Any teenage girl can relate to the stories and characters, and if they can't, they will certainly get a kick out of them! I wish their was a sequel of some kind! Kathy Coudle King is a great writer!

If you've ever been a girl in her early teen years, this book will bring back all of those feelings you thought you'd forgotten. If you're the mother of one of those teens, this book could be a valuable bridge to understanding. All of the angst, joy, pride and search for identity is in here. I loved it!
