(Book 1 of The Zombie West Series) by Angela Scott. (Young Adult, Zombie
Western Romance)

Trace Monroe doesn't believe in luck. He never has. But when a fiery-headed cowgirl saunters through the saloon doors, wielding shotguns and a know-how for killing the living dead, he believes he just may be the luckiest man alive.

Trace wants to join Red's posse, but she prefers to work alone--less messy that way. In order to become her traveling companion, Trace has to agree to her terms: no names, no questions, and if he gets bit, he can't beg for mercy when she severs his brain stem.

He agrees, knowing only that Red is the sharpest shooter he's ever encountered. The fact she's stunning hasn't escaped his attention either.

What he doesn't know, is that Red has a very good reason to be on top of her game. She not only has the answer for how they can all outlive the plague taking over the wild, wild west, she IS the answer.

Didn't know what to expect, but hey, it's zombies so of course I gave it a read. Boy, am I glad I did! Creepy, crazy, fast paced and just so much fun! The old west was never so entertaining for me until now! My only problem is now I have to get my hands on the rest of the books, that whole 'Must Know What Happens Next' has got me in it's grasp!

WANTED: DEAD OR UNDEAD was a huge surprise for me - it's become one of my favorite reads this year! Zombies and the Wild West? A unique combination that could be all kinds of awesome. Admittedly, I paid the most attention to the zombie aspect of the series and jumped at the chance to read this trilogy. Typically I avoid the Western section of the book store, but Scott gives a unforgettable rendition of the zombie apocalypse that is not only entertaining but tugs at your heartstrings at times as well.  Red has to be one of the strongest heroines I've encountered in an apocalyptic setting in a long time. Not only is she in the Wild West where there's all kinds of dangers such as wanted outlaws and inhospitable terrain, she's also in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. As if living out there wasn't enough to worry about! She handles herself like a pro and is a true survivalist - she knows how to stay one step ahead to stay alive. Already losing so much - her parents and two younger brothers - she decided a long time ago to never become involved with other people. Until Trace comes along.  He doesn't have the purest of intentions in the beginning, but I liked him right from the start. Never giving up on breaking through Red's walls, he does his best to show her she can trust him. I understood the way she felt about wanting to work alone - it's easier to not have to worry about helping out other people and caring about them only to possibly lose them. It's a lonely existence however, so I was thrilled when Red and Trace meet up.  The setting made for one of the most interesting aspects about battling the hordes of zombies - in a genre that's been done over and over again, it was refreshing this was set back in time of the Wild West. Even if you aren't a fan of the Western genre, I glowingly recommend you read WANTED: DEAD OR UNDEAD and give this novel five stars. I wish I could give it more! I'm looking forward to the next two installments to see what's next for these characters I've fallen in love with. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Great book! Zombies in the Old West. I really liked this book so I bought the trilogy. Ms. Scott's portrayal of the Old West was great, you could picture the old towns, and the cowboys. I enjoyed how she built the relationship between Red, Cowboy & Wenn, it was well done. The book was well paced and had a few surprises readers will enjoy. There were points though that I felt Red was "too tough" and I thought since she had shared so much already with Trace, her running off from the fort was just too silly. *** Spoiler It was nice to read of a person being able to survive a bite. Sometimes in books the author try to explain everything about the "virus", I liked how Ms. Scott didn't provide the answers, but just dealt with a virus and the aftermath. If you liked the book get the rest, the whole series was great!

Twas meh, wasnt goood but wasnt bad. Broke one pf the main rules of zombie books in that the characters refer to the zombies as zombies.

It's very good, if you love zombies that is. Only downside is the western theme.

First time reading a zombie story. Very different but it was interesting especially since there were a few people who could survive the attacks.

I have to admit I started reading this expecting a zombie western with lots of eating and being eaten along with some humor. What I got was so much more. The story starts on a nail-biting scene that leaves you with no choice but to continue reading. Trace is an opportunist, a card shark, a bit of a trickster. All he wants is to stroll through life with no complications. That wasn’t hard until the zombies started moving westward. Red is a no-nonsense woman on a mission. Traveling west towards California, she’s hoping to find her brother. He joined the cavalry to fight the zombies and she hasn’t heard from him since. The zombie plague has consumed the larger cities on either coast and is rapidly extending to the midwest. Thrown together by a chance encounter, Trace and Red slowly begin to trust each other. They will have to in order to survive. As they travel westward, their group of two slowly grows, along with their attraction for each other. They both have secrets kept to themselves for fear they will shatter the tenuous bond growing between them. Angela Scott takes her time developing the characters and establishing her story, weaving in new characters along with their stories and building genuine relationships. The scenes were so well written I could swear I was there. I shuddered in horror, feared the worst, and sighed in delight. The cliff-hanger ending left my jaw dropping in surprise, already anticipating more. This ending is very satisfying and one of the best I’ve read. I received this book for my honest and unbiased review.

So let me start by saying YAY-ZOMBIES!!! I don’t know why I love zombies, they’re creepy, scary and wanna eat you, but who cares, I love ‘em anyways! This book is a fun, fresh new take on a zombie tale set in Old West. This zombies meets Cassidy and the Sundace kid. Hahaha the main character is like a female Clint Eastwood to me lol ok that’s probably a bad reference but it’s funny and pretty cool! The beginning pretty much ripped my heart. You see the beginning of Red’s journey, which is how the zombie virus spread to her family. It’s pitiful. And then Elizabeth, aka Red, is on a journey to salvage what’s left of life in a world filled with zombies. I love her! She is totally a bad @$$  she will shoot you while looking you in the eye. She has perfected how to kill zombies and she is a loner, except for her horse. Ever notice loners attract the most people? LOL well, Red does. No matter how much she hates being around other people, the seem to attract to her like magnets. I love the characters that came along in this story. They made the story so much fun. Plus, I really just liked the story. It’s so different. In the Wild West, things are so different from our technologically driven world, so when you throw in zombies, and a totally kick@$$ chick, it’s one of the coolest stories I’ve ever read  The writing was so fun, it’s so easy to follow and become invested in what happens. I’m so glad I decided to grab book 2 at the same time! I look forward to seeing what’s going to happen as there’s plenty left to be told! Suspense will do that to a girl  this one gets a GUN SLINGING 4.5 PAWS from me!! I’ll be back in a few days to continue on to book 2!

I received a complimentary copy of this book as a part of a book tour in exchange for a fair and honest review. Zombies, a spunky heroine and a hero smoother than butter make Angela Scott's Wanted: Dead or Undead a great start to The Zombie West series. With plenty of action, fun dialogue and enough romance to keep things going, this paranormal tale of the Old West captured my attention from the first page. Well developed characters and good world building make this book a strong entry in the YA field. A zombie hunter by necessity, Elisabeth, or "Red" as she's now known, is roaming West in order to locate her older brother. Disposing of the infected along the way has become a way of life for her, running into a handsome cowboy who won't leave her alone is an unexpected surprise. Becoming the leader of a small posse of uninfected was never a part of her plan. A gambler and a cowboy, Trace Monroe has always believed in his luck. How else could he explain "Red" walking into a saloon and saving the patrons from a zombie no one seemed to be able to take down. Realizing she's the girl on the "Wanted" poster could lead to a large reward, if he can gain her trust. Falling in love with her was definitely not a part of his plan. The scenes between "Red" and Trace, or "Cowboy" as Red likes to call him are full of humor, plenty of action and sharp dialogue. A loner by habit, Red really wants to be left alone to go her own way - something Cowboy has no intentions of letting her do. Learning to depend on each other becomes quite the adventure. Joined by some colorful and interesting secondary characters, Red and Cowboy make their way across the land. Will Red ever become comfortable enough to share the secrets to her zombie hunting success? Will her secret change the growing romance between Red and Cowboy? You'll have to read Wanted: Dead or Undead to find out. I liked it and I think you will too.

Angela pens "Wanted: Dead or Undead in a well written, smooth flowing plot loaded with action and gore. The main characters in the story are intriguing and strong, and Angela's way of creating images within your mind is outstanding. The cliffhanger was just perfect in creating you wanting more. A total entertaining must read for all zombie fans. *5 Stars* This review is based on a complimentary copy which was provided for an honest review.
